KIZUKI Australia is the official goggle supplier to Mt Hotham Ski Patrol. Throughout the 2026 season, the patrol team wore KIZUKI goggles on the mountain, through bluebird mornings, whiteouts and everything in between.
We started KIZUKI because we love skiing in Australia and wanted goggles that were genuinely built for it. As founders, you dream about the day people you respect put your gear to work. Seeing our goggles on ski patrol, the people who are still out there when everyone else has headed for the café, is one of those moments we won't forget.
So this one's personal. Here's how it came about, what the patrol told us, and why we're so grateful.
How It Started
The partnership came together in our first season, when the patrol was looking for new goggles for its team.
We'd only just launched. KIZUKI was a young, independent, Australian-owned brand with a lot to prove, and having the patrol take a chance on us that early meant more than we can really put into words.
We also knew what it meant in practice. Patrol gear has to earn its place, and we were keen (and, honestly, a little nervous) to see how our goggles would hold up in the hands of people who spend more time on the mountain than almost anyone.
Why a Season on Patrol Is Such a Big Test
Patrollers are out in every condition, all day, for the whole season, which makes patrol one of the most demanding environments any gear can be used in.
They're often first on the hill and last off it. Weather that sends recreational skiers inside is simply part of the job. And Australian alpine conditions keep everyone honest: wet snow, strong wind, fog rolling in, and visibility that can shift from bright sun to flat light in the space of a few runs.
Hotham is known as the upside-down mountain, with the village sitting up top and much of the terrain dropping away below it. As skiers ourselves, we know how quickly a day there can change. Patrollers live with that every day of the season. You can read more about the mountain in our Hotham skiing and snowboarding guide.
What the Patrol Told Us
When the season wrapped up, we sat down with patrol leadership to hear how the goggles had really gone. It was the conversation we'd been looking forward to all season.
The feedback was strongly positive, and most of it came back to how the goggles handled the realities of a long Australian season.
The magnetic lenses came up first. The team said they felt secure on the frame and were easy to swap, which matters when you're doing it with cold hands in the wind, not sitting at the kitchen table. Our guide to magnetic ski goggles explains how the system works.
They also leaned on having one lens for bright days and another for low light, and the low-light lens got plenty of use. That won't surprise anyone who's skied here. Australian weather can go from sunshine to flat, grey cloud in a few runs, and a tint that lifts contrast makes it far easier to read the snow when everything starts to look the same. Our guide to ski goggles for low light goes deeper on why.
The smaller things got a mention too. The team liked the professional look and the colours, and appreciated having a hard case, microfibre pouch and cleaning cloth to keep the goggles protected as they were packed, carried and used day after day. It's why we think a protective ski goggle case is worth having, and why we always suggest a proper cloth over a glove when cleaning your goggles.
But the comment that meant the most to us was the simplest one: the quality impressed them. When you've spent as long as we have sweating the small details of a goggle, hearing that from patrol means a lot.
More than any single point, what came through in that conversation was genuine excitement, and a real belief in what an independent Australian brand can bring to the mountain. As founders, that's not something we'll ever take for granted.
What It Means for Your Days on the Hill
We built KIZUKI for the way Aussies actually ski and ride, so it was reassuring to hear patrol value the same things we hope you will.
You don't need to be on patrol to want a goggle that makes lens swaps easy and gives you a plan for flat light. Both make a real difference to a day in Australian conditions. Our ski goggles lens guide is a good place to start if you're working out what suits you.
And if you've been weighing up whether to trust a newer Australian brand, we hope a season on patrol is a helpful bit of reassurance. We know it was for us.
Giving Back to the People Who Look After the Mountain
When we started KIZUKI, we didn't just want to make good goggles. We wanted to be part of the mountain community that got us hooked on skiing in the first place.
Ski patrol sits right at the heart of that community. They're out checking runs before the lifts start spinning, working through conditions most of us would happily sit out, and showing up when someone's having the worst day of their season. So much of what they do happens quietly, and most of it goes unseen.
So when the patrol's annual fundraiser came around, chipping in was an easy yes. We donated goggles to the raffle, and it was a genuinely nice moment for us. We hope whoever took them home has had some great days in them.
For us, that's what Quality and Community look like in practice: making gear we're proud of, and backing the people who keep everyone safe on the hill.
A Partnership We're Grateful For
Our brand promise is Performance Without Compromise, and a season with Mt Hotham Ski Patrol has been a meaningful way to put that promise to work. What started in our first season has grown into a strong partnership, and one we're genuinely grateful for.
We're thankful to the team at Mt Hotham Ski Patrol for backing us early, for the honest feedback, and for everything they do on the mountain.
Next time you spot a patroller at Hotham, give them a wave. They've earned it. And if you ever need them, you'll be very glad they can see clearly.
